Needleless Connectors

The wide range of needleless connectors on the market today, and the differences in how they function, presents a challenge for home-based nurses who need to quickly determine the type of connector in place so they can follow the proper flush technique and/or clamping sequence that may be required. If not used properly, blood can reflux into the distal tip of the vascular access device (VAD) as the final flush syringe is disconnected from some needleless connectors, which may contribute to VAD occlusions.
